Admission Policies

The school has a racially nondiscriminatory policy and shall make no distinction in its admission policy or education services on the grounds of race, color, national or ethnic origin. Admission to Stoneybrooke Christian School is obtained by online application and personal interview. After reviewing the information, the administrator will decide if admission is appropriate. Enrollment of children in Stoneybrooke Christian School is a privilege, not a right. Parents must understand that continued enrollment and re-enrollment of their children is dependent on their support of the school, its staff, and its policies.

Enrollment Age Cutoff

To be eligible for Kindergarten, Stoneybrooke’s policy is that a child should be five years old by September 1. Exceptions may be possible at the discretion of the Administration. However, these exceptions are rarely granted.

All Junior Kindergarten students must be 5 years old between June 1 and December 31. Students may not be enrolled in Junior Kindergarten if they have turned 5 years old before June 1 or after December 31.

Birth certificates and physician’s reports are included in the application process for kindergarten children. Pupils who have behavioral problems or who are significantly limited in academic ability will not be accepted.

Birth Certificates

All Stoneybrooke students are required to have a certified copy of their birth certificate on file in the school office by the first day of school.

Immunizations

Stoneybrooke is complying with the California law regarding immunizations. Senate Bill 277 says parents can no longer refuse to vaccinate their children in public or private schools based on their personal opposition.

Under the law, private or public childcare centers, preschools, elementary schools and secondary schools cannot admit children unless they are immunized against 10 diseases. Students admitted at ages 5-6 years, entering Kindergarten are required to have these immunizations:

Required Immunizations

Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis

5 doses

DTap, DTP, or DT · 4 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday

Polio

4 doses

OPV or IPV · 3 doses OK if one was given on or after 4th birthday

Hepatitis B

3 doses

Not required for 7th grade entry

Measles, Mumps & Rubella

2 doses

MMR · both given on or after 1st birthday

Varicella

2 doses

Chickenpox

Tdap

Required

For incoming 7th graders · now considered the next grade span

In order to prevent the spread of disease, should there be a case of a communicable disease like measles, identified within the school community (among students or staff), all non-immunized or partially immunized students will be excluded from school for a specified quarantine as recommended by the state.

School Records

As per the laws of the State of California, parents have the right to access their student’s records. If parents wish to view their child’s records, they should feel free to stop by the office and see the principal on site.

If parents wish to have documents copied from the student’s file, they must make a request in person at the school office. The office staff will make every effort to accommodate requests as soon as is possible. The California Educational Code allows for a 5-day period of time to fulfill the request.

Guidelines For Accepting Special Needs Students

While it is Stoneybrooke’s desire to continue to serve a wide range of elementary and junior high students, it seems appropriate to outline some general guidelines for the school’s response to an ever-increasing demand for special services.

These precious children require additional attention and suitable programs. In order to serve them properly and balance the school’s attention towards the other students, it seems appropriate to establish the following:

Parents will provide:

  1. Complete documentation of the issues associated with the child’s specific needs. These include but are not limited to any formal or informal IEP materials, school records, testing results and/or treatment history.
  2. Professional diagnosis of any follow-up notes from medical personnel familiar with the child’s needs.

The student will be:

  1. Interviewed by administration and the potential classroom teacher.
  2. Carefully evaluated (to include academic testing).
  3. Observed for 1-2 days either in their prior school or in a classroom at Stoneybrooke.

The school will:

  1. Document all expressed needs on the Preliminary Interview form at the time of the first entrance interview.
  2. Meet with the parents after the formal observation period and discuss the results.
  3. Submit all findings for committee review. This committee will include administration, teacher and other appropriate Stoneybrooke staff (SSP teacher).
  4. Inform parents of administration decision regarding enrollment and outline any specific stipulations of enrollment.

It is acknowledged that Stoneybrooke is neither structured, staffed, nor resourced in such a way to appropriately serve all potential students in south Orange County. However, this policy will allow a reasonable response to a growing demand for Christian education from families with special needs children.
