Student Activities
Bus Transportation
The following rules must be observed on the bus:
- Obey the bus driver and follow directions at all times.
- Seatbelts must be worn at all times.
- Remain seated and face forward at all times while the bus is in motion. Keep yourself and all objects inside the bus.
- Be courteous and considerate of others at all times.
- Remain quiet while on the bus and silent at all railroad crossings.
- Abusive or profane language or gestures will not be tolerated.
- Do not chew gum, eat, and/or drink while on the bus.
- Do not litter. Vandalism and destruction of property will not be tolerated, and costs will be billed to parents/guardians.
- Do not play music on any device while on the bus.
- Animals and insects will not be transported on the bus. Guide, signal and service animals are the only exception.
- Glass containers or hazardous materials will not be transported on the bus.
- Skateboards and/or body boards will not be transported on the bus.
Bus Safety
The bus driver conducts safety instruction in accordance with state regulations, each school year.
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
The school bus is an extension of our school. Cell phones and all electronic devices are not permitted to be used by students while on the school bus. Students that do bring cell phones to school must have them turned off in their backpacks.
Hazardous Articles
State regulation requires that baggage or other objects carried on a school bus be safely secured or stored in a manner that will not result in passenger discomfort or injury. All aisles and emergency doors/windows must remain unobstructed. Students may only transport items that can be held on their lap so that every bus rider will have an adequate and safe place to sit. Parents and students may arrange for other transportation when large, bulky items must be taken to and from school.
Field Trip Policy
In order to maintain an equitable field trip program, the following guidelines shall apply to all grade levels:
- Only one parent and/or legal guardian may be a chaperone.
- The number of parents allotted to go on a field trip will be specified by the venue or the teacher (if the destination does not specify a certain number). We will always take as many parents as is deemed necessary for the safety of the children.
- No other parent(s) will be allowed to attend with the students, even if they volunteer to drive their own auto and/or pay their own way.
- It is never appropriate for those parents attending field trips to bring along siblings.
- All students are to attend school field trips and spring trips via school transportation only. If the number of students on the bus exceeds the seating capacity, some parents may be asked to drive their own vehicles.
- If, while driving their own vehicle on a field trip, a parent wishes to leave from the event and take his/her child with them, they must check out with their student’s teacher. This will NOT count as an early release provided that the estimated time of arrival of students back at school on the bus would be 2:15 pm (or later) at school. If the expected arrival time of the bus, back at school is earlier, his/her student will be charged with an “early leave” for that day. This helps us keep track of where each child is and whose care they are under in case of emergencies. This policy applies only to the chaperones on the field trip. Only the chaperone’s child will be allowed to leave with them unless a written notice from the non-family member’s parent(s) has been presented to the teacher prior to the trip.
- In addition to the above-mentioned policies, all Junior High field trips are mandatory. Students are expected to go on every planned field trip. This includes the JH Ice Skating Day and the 8th grade Activity Day.
Field Trip Transportation
Transportation rules are as follows:
- Loading the bus:
- All students line up in a safe area well away from the bus
- Load one student at a time
- Students are to wear their seat belts at all times
- Riding:
- Students must remain in their seats with their back up against the seat back and their bottom on the seat
- No turning around in the seat or leaning forward to talk with those in front or in back
- Be courteous and considerate of others at all times. Abusive or profane language or gestures will not be tolerated. No touching, hitting or annoying those around you
- Remain quiet while on the bus and silent at all railroad crossings. No singing or loud talking permitted
- When the interior lights are turned on, all students will instantly be quiet
- Do not litter. Vandalism and destruction of property will not be tolerated, and costs will be billed to parents/guardians
- Do not play music on any devices while on the bus
- The following items will not be transported on the bus: glass containers, hazardous materials, skateboards, body boards, animals or insects. Guide, signal and service animals are the only exceptions
- Students will follow all the instructions given by the bus driver
- No hands or arms hanging out of the windows
- The bus driver will instruct students on whether they may put the window up or down
- No food or drink or gum is to be consumed while on the bus
- Students are NOT permitted to use any electronic devices (including, but not limited to cell phones, iPads, iPods, etc.) while riding the bus unless given specific permission by administration to do so
- Any student riding the bus must be at least (5) years of age
- Unloading
- Students stand and disembark as instructed by the bus driver, being careful not to push as they unload
- Students line up a safe distance away from the bus
- CALIFORNIA LAW STATES: When the bus flashes red lights (located at the top front and back of the bus), you must stop from either direction until the children are safely across the street and the lights stop flashing (CVC §22454). If you fail to stop, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your driving privilege could be suspended for 1 year. If the school bus is on the other side of a divided or multilane highway (two or more lanes in each direction), you do not need to stop.

- Stoneybrooke will take an appropriate number of parent chaperones according to the needs of each Spring Trip.
- Due to sleeping arrangements in grades 3rd-6th, parent chaperones must be the same gender as the student they are accompanying.
- For the 3rd grade trip (Rawhide), the number of chaperones is limited. A parent of the same gender as the student attending the trip may put their name in the drawing to be a chaperone. Chaperones will be selected based on the order they are drawn. If selected as a chaperone, the office will contact you. Any parent above our allotted chaperone need, will be placed on a wait list in the order drawn. Only one parent per family can attend.
- For the 4th grade trip (Sacramento), the trip is open to any parent of the same gender as the student attending the trip. Chaperones must register on the tour website. Chaperones should be prepared to room with their student and possibly 1-2 other students, who might not have a parent attending, or another parent and student of the same gender. Only one parent per family can attend.
- For the 5th grade trip (Catalina), the number of chaperones is limited. A parent of the same gender as the student attending the trip may put their name in the drawing to be a chaperone. If selected as a chaperone, the office will contact you. Priority will be given to any parent that has not attended a previous trip with their student. Chaperones will be selected based on the order they are drawn. Any parent above our allotted chaperone need, will be placed on a wait list in the order drawn. Only one parent per family can attend.
- For the 6th grade trip (Astrocamp), the number of chaperones is limited. A parent of the same gender as the student attending the trip may put their name in the drawing to be a chaperone. Chaperones will be selected based on the order they are drawn. Any parent above our allotted chaperone need, will be placed on a wait list in the order drawn. Only one parent per family can attend.
- For the 7th grade trip (Camp Oakhurst/Yosemite), one parent (either mom or dad) may attend (does not need to be the same gender as the student attending the trip). Parent chaperones are not guaranteed a seat on the bus and may be asked to drive separately or carpool with other chaperones. Chaperones will be lodging with other chaperones but must also be prepared to room with a group of students, if needed. Only one parent per family can attend.
- For the 8th grade trip (Washington DC/New York), one parent (either mom or dad) may attend (does not need to be the same gender as the student attending the trip). Chaperones will be limited to the number of seats available on the bus. Seats are prioritized by staff, students, then parents. Once the registration deadline has passed, any parents still wanting to attend may be put on a waitlist. Students on the waitlist will always have priority to take a seat before a parent on the waitlist.
- All medications for students attending spring trips must be in original pharmacy containers along with directions for dispensing, signed by the parent and authorizing Stoneybroke staff to administer.
- If the school determines that a child has significant physical, social or emotional needs that necessitates one-on-one supervision, the parent will be required to attend the spring trip with his/her student.
- In the event that swimming is available on a spring trip or other school sponsored activity, girls must wear either a one-piece bathing suit or a two-piece with a t-shirt or rash guard.
- Junior High students are expected to go to Washington DC/NY for 8th grade and to Camp Oakhurst/Yosemite for 7th grade.
- If a student is unable to attend a spring trip after confirming their attendance for the trip, parent(s) are responsible for any security deposits, cancellation fees, expenses, etc., not reimbursed by the trip vendor.
- All students are encouraged to attend their spring trip unless there is a significant health issue. Those not attending the trip are considered absent. Assignments will be given to approximate the content of the trip.
Sports Program
Stoneybrooke is first and foremost an educational institution. Our goal is to aid students in striving to reach their greatest potential in their academic life. Sports are viewed as extracurricular activities which are meant to enhance the student’s athletic ability and allow for some friendly competition but are never to interfere with the academic process. Therefore, the following policy has been set forth to help ensure that the student’s grades to not suffer as a result of participation in after-school sports: all students must maintain a “C” average during the season their sport is being played, with no “F’s”.
If a student is not maintaining a “C” average with no “F’s” or has a significant drop in work turned in on a regular basis, he/she will be notified that they will not be allowed to participate in any further games until the deficiency is corrected enough to warrant further participation on the team. The teacher and an administrator will decide whether the student will be allowed to participate further.
The ineligible student may not participate in team practices and in no case are they allowed to accompany the team to a game on school time or in a team carpool. They will be allowed to have their picture taken with the team for the official team photo, although they were not eligible for part of the season.
A fee will be charged to the FACTS account for each student who plays on a sports team. The amount is assessed once for each sport to help offset the cost of uniforms, referee fees, etc.
